I am currently working in an alternative provision for children with SEMH difficulties that are struggling to attend mainstream education.  There is a growing cohort of children that have been affected by the pandemic and a need for schools to have a greater understanding of how to support these children and their families.  We have a nurturing, relational approach and use PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy) throughout our practice with great success.

I have been in education for 18 years and have teaching and leadership experience in both mainstream education and a variety of special school settings.  My main subject is PE and I have always had a particular interest in trying to engage vulnerable students. I designed an alternative curriculum for children and young people that were disengaged in PE and presented this programme at the Youth Sports Trust National Conference.

In 2018 I completed my Masters in SEMH through SEBDA. Most of my studies focussed on Attachment Theory and Trauma Informed Practice.  My dissertation was an analysis on the impact of attachment theory and trauma within a special school setting.  I have continued to develop my skills within this area and am now a qualified Attachment Lead through Touchbase.
